FROM HERE TO THE WORLD

Real stories, processes we are proud of. Real projects, with a beginning, middle and truth.

Create. Reuse. Inspire.

In the industrial heart of Vila do Conde, where the sea dictates rhythms and inspires traditions, Aloft has been standing out as a true beacon of sustainability.

Known for producing high-quality technical footwear and soles, we have adopted an innovative and responsible approach to industrial waste, without ever compromising the performance of its products.

Reuse with Intelligence: The Materials' Cycle

At Aloft, nothing is lost – everything is transformed. Waste from non-compliant soles or boots, as well as production leftovers, are meticulously separated by type, specifications and colour.

As they leave the machines, these residues are immediately shredded and reincorporated into the production process through a highly efficient LEAN system, regulated by proportional valves.

This process requires in-depth technical know-how to ensure that the inclusion of recycled material does not affect the colour, appearance or performance of the final wellies.

In the case of rubber, the waste is sent to a specialised company that micronises it — a process that reduces the particles to microscopic sizes — for subsequent reintegration into production. It has been determined that 10% is the ideal percentage for incorporation, balancing sustainability with quality.

Although it does not translate into direct cost savings (due to processing and logistics costs), this initiative virtually eliminates waste in the factory — an undeniable environmental gain.

Innovation with the scent of the sea

We have launched a truly unique project: the creation of wellington boots that incorporate 15% recycled fishing nets, sourced from surplus material in the textile industry. This initiative reinforces our connection to the maritime identity of Vila do Conde and symbolises our commitment to the circular economy.

It was necessary to develop a new cutting system, ensure the homogeneity of the material and adjust the injection parameters to incorporate this new compound. We also want to raise consumer awareness, alerting them to minor visual imperfections resulting from the nature of the recycled material — imperfections that tell a story of sustainability.

We are involving our partners and customers in this journey, disseminating the new standards and requesting their formal acceptance — an essential step towards consolidating a greener and more responsible industry.

For us, sustainability is not just a trend: it is an urgent necessity. And in Vila do Conde, between the sea and innovation, we show that it is possible to move towards a cleaner future — wearing wellies.
